Sometimes I can’t believe how old my kids are getting. So old, in fact, that I’ve been thinking about how to tackle questions that might get a bit awkward as they enter teenage-hood. A friend of mine recommended a book on the subject, for getting the conversation jump-started. It’s called The Care and Keeping of You, and there are two versions, one for younger girls (7 to 9 years old) and one for older ones (10 and up).
I gave my daughter the one for older girls, and it really was a great way to broach the topic of growing up, and what that means physically and emotionally. There’s a highly recommended one for boys as well, called The Body Book for Boys. I haven’t read that one yet, but it also looks really helpful.
