Did you kids get duplicates of a certain toy, gifts they weren’t really into, or simply too much stuff this holiday season? There are organizations all over Westchester that continue to accept new, unopened toy donations after the holidays are over, and we contacted a few of them to get the details on how and what to donate. It’s a great way to de-clutter and help those in need at the same time.
Toys for Tots
Their holiday toy drive continues through Dec. 30 at one drop-off location, a Westy Self Storage facility in Elmsford. Toys donated after Christmas will be given to groups that celebrate Three Kings’ Day in January, so no donation is wasted. 395 Saw Mill River Road, Elmsford
Blythedale Children’s Hospital
The Valhalla-based children’s hospital welcomes donations of brand new toys, arts and crafts supplies, video games and DVDs year-round. The donations are used to provide entertainment and comfort to the hospital’s young patients (here’s more information about the program). Email Debbie Sicari at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an appointment to drop off your donation (appointments available Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm). 95 Bradhurst Avenue, Valhalla
Family Services of Westchester
This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing Westchester residents with social and mental health services and will take toys any time of the year, new or gently used. They’re most in need of toys for ages 1-4 for the Head Start/Early Head Start program (106 North Broadway, White Plains) and toys for all ages at the Therapeutic Foster Care program (55 S. Main Street, 4th Floor, Port Chester). Simply drop off donations during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
Cardinal McCloskey Community Services
Serving at-risk children and families and those with developmental disabilities, Cardinal McCloskey Community Services runs a major holiday toy drive in December, but also accepts gifts year-round to prepare for the following holiday season. Contact Kerry Gutekunst at email@example.com or (914) 997-8000 ext. 114 if you’d like to donate your new toys; a wish list of most wanted items can be found here. 115 East Stevens Avenue, Suite LL5, Valhalla
