My son’s elementary school was having a fancy fundraiser, and I didn’t want to go in my same old boring hair and makeup. So I booked an appointment at DreamDry, a new Scarsdale salon (part of a national chain) that markets itself as a “beauty destination” offering high glamour hair and make-up. “We’ve put together a team of leading stylists and trendsetters, led by Rachel Zoe and Robin Moraetes, to give our clientele the blowout they’ve always dreamed of,” reads the website.
When you go in to get your hair done, you’ll be told to scroll through glamorous hair-dos on an iPad screen, choosing whichever look you’re hoping to achieve. (The look above is considered “soft and romantic, a good first date do,” but there are numerous others. To see all of them, browse their Style Menu.) Of the three of us who went in to test the blow-out, all three of us left with Instagram-worthy hair. I had mine done pin-straight, while my two buddies had theirs blown into pretty waves.
We all loved our makeup. I said I wanted “natural,” and the artist, who was also a young mom, said she would make sure my make-up showed up but didn’t overpower. She even convinced me to glue eyelashes on my lids for the night (they washed off easily with cleanser), giving my lashes a fuller and more dramatic look.
There is only one caveat: DreamDry is way expensive. While the blow-out cost $50, which isn’t terrible, the make-up cost $80! And that was before tips. Still, if you have a wedding or special event, their stylists won’t disappoint. Think of it as a step-up from your standard old hair salon blow-out.
