It’s a question that all house hunters face: buy something that is move-in ready or go for a fixer-upper that you can make your own? There are certainly pros and cons to each, but Houlihan Lawrence agent, Westchester native and mother of three small children Kaitlan Cantwell thinks that a newly renovated home is the best option for some buyers.
“I am seeing more and more buyers that are in the market for newly renovated properties,” shares Cantwell. “For some, this may be their first home and they want to avoid unexpected surprises like replacing the hot water heater or roof within the first year.”
She also points out that many buyers lead incredibly busy lifestyles, whether they are working full-time, managing small children, or traveling frequently, which makes it much more of a challenge to oversee a major renovation. “Quite a few of my clients don’t have a whole lot of time to focus on major house projects like renovating a kitchen or bathroom, or the redesign of the living spaces and layouts of each room,” Cantwell says. “What appeals to buyers right now is being able to close on the house and move right in.”
Whether relocating from Manhattan or Brooklyn or making a move within the county, Cantwell also identifies other factors that may come in to play like being able to live in your new home by the start of the school year and avoiding living in a construction zone for an indefinite length of time, which can be particularly challenging with young children.
For those who are in the market for a newly renovated home in the Larchmont area, Cantwell has a stunning listing at 7 Maple Hill Drive that is the perfect blend of the sophistication of Larchmont in a 1930’s center hall tudor with all the modern amenities and finishes for how we live today. (Think: designer LED lighting throughout the entire house, custom cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms, with Kohler and Grohe Fixtures).
There will be a public open house this weekend on Saturday, May 10 from 2pm to 4pm and Sunday, May 11 from 1pm to 3pm, or contact Kaitlan directly at (917) 597-5536.
