Sagamore Playground in Bronxville is one of those playgrounds that makes you want to stay awhile. The playground is nestled on a hill, on a tree lined Bronxville street. It’s shady, like every playground should be, with lots of benches for grown-ups and several play areas for young kids. And every time we’ve been there, my four-year-old has met other kids. (There’s nothing more depressing than an empty playground!)
Sagamore Playground received some improvements in 2012 and the playground looks really well maintained. You’ll find ride-ons for little ones, mini basketball hoops and push toys in a paved area. A jungle gym with a long covered slide for older kids is located at the farthest part the playground. Next to the jungle gym are swings for big kids and little kids. There are two more jungle gyms, one for preschoolers and another for toddlers that includes an adorable log house. No playground is complete without a sandbox and this one has sand toys waiting for you. And check out the cute wooden train (below photo) to play in.
Perhaps the best reason to come to Sagamore Playground is the trees. Lush trees surround the playground making it feel very natural and serene. In fact, the playground is easy to miss since it’s high up on a hill (there is a ramp for strollers). Two-hour free parking is available along Sagamore Street. Bring your lunch and stay awhile and don’t forget a snack to share. Sagamore Road (Avon Road), Bronxville. If you are using your GPS, the address to the apartment next door to the playground is 64 Sagamore.
