Sherry B Dessert Studio is not your grandmother’s bakery. At this newish Chappaqua dessert shop, a chalkboard menu meets white subway tile and sleek industrial lighting. The desserts are presented behind glass with as much style and care as a food spread in a glossy magazine, and they look so good that it’s hard to settle on one treat. There are “stuffed” brownies and Sherry O cookies (the baker’s version of an Oreo), purple velvet cupcakes and neat rows of still-warm chocolate chip cookies.
Call Sherry B’s the general store of sweet stuff.
But it’s the chocolate chip cookie that made me flip. They were ooey-gooey soft, packed with oversized chocolate chips, and a buttery flavor that made me nibble rather than inhale. I wanted this cookie to last as long as possible.
What’s really great about Sherry B’s is that it’s a place that begs you to sit a spell (with one of these marshmallow squares, of course). There’s plenty of seating up front overlooking King Street, and the barrista will whip you up a latte or espresso to sip with your treat. The shop also offers house-made sodas, homemade ice cream and best of all, free Wi-Fi.
The coffee shop and bakery is the brainchild of Sherry Blockinger, a Chappaqua resident and graduate of the French Culinary Institute. Blockinger’s confections are so special, I don’t think I’ll eat a chocolate chip cookie anywhere else in the county again. This is dessert for those of us who takes treats very, very seriously.
