We went to the New York Botanical Garden last Sunday and spent the entire time in the Adventure Garden. (Besides lunch at the cafe. Sesame salmon wraps with wasabi. Yum.) The Adventure Garden’s current theme is “Spring Fun” and that’s exactly what we had.
We loved the whimsical, flower covered caterpillars that were interspersed throughout the garden. Each one wowed us with their different hues.
Even better was the funny fern, leaf and pine cone covered frog. The frog is also an interactive fountain. Kids can jump on the “leaves” surrounding the frog to make water shoot out of his legs. We had to literally pull my girls away before they got soaked.
We also explored the child friendly mini trails, learned about pollen, how bees see flowers and planted our own buckwheat grass seeds.
But, my kids’ favorite part of the Adventure Garden is always the Boulder Maze. I remember how much I loved climbing big rocks, as a kid, and how it felt like I was on an adventure. The Adventure Garden reminds us how much kids love the thrill of outdoor discovery. And how we still love it.
