“It’s crazy what people throw away,” says Michael Kalesti. He’s the owner and eye behind Kent Home, one of my favorite home design shops in the area.
Kalesti is a former fashion industry heavyweight that used to work for Donna Karan, Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein. After getting interested in mid-century modern furnishings a few years back, he decided to open this oh-so-cool (and not-so-Westchester) home store in 2010. It was inspired by his favorite design shops in Paris and Milan. Last year, Kent Home moved to their new digs on Chappaqua’s South Greeley Avenue.
It’s beautifully curated. Expect unique lighting options, smallish furnishings and a really neat mix of objects. I’ve seen a to-die-for mid-century lounge chair inside as well as a really cool pair of mid-century ceramic Buddha lamps.
Kalesti is a regular on the estate and tag sale circuit, so he’s always bringing back cool finds for shoppers to peruse. Also, if you’ve been hunting for a particular piece, you might ask him to keep his eye out for you.
