I go to Martha whenever I’m looking to make something special at home, which is how I found her Polka Dot Birthday Cupcakes. I had outsourced Harper’s 2-year-old birthday party to a local gym, but I wanted to bake him a special treat to enjoy that day.
I chose this recipe because the cupcakes could be made one day ahead. They also had a hint of orange zest, which made me feel like I was baking for a dozen little gourmands.
The ingredients are are all things you have in the house. Think: flour, baking powder, butter, sugar, eggs, milk. To make the icing, which is DIVINE and needs to be eaten with a spoon, you’ll need cream cheese.
I’ve made these cupcakes several times, and they really are the perfect birthday cupcake. They’re delicious, easy and no fail.
Even more important, the kids love them!
