“Never too young, never too old for yoga” is a recognizable yogic truism, and one that the new Here&Now Yoga studio in Scarsdale Village strongly believes in. “Yoga is beneficial for kids of all ages and has shown to improve focus, balance, mind-body awareness and coordination. It also improves flexibility, strength and confidence in one’s self,” says owner Jocelyn Koenig. “Learning to calm the mind and body by using the breath and physical postures is an invaluable skill to hone at a young age.” Here&Now is geared toward kids and families, offering classes for the whole range from prenatal to tweens.
For the younger yogis in the family, yoga is presented playfully, but the postures and concepts still deliver invaluable developmental skills and support. Motor skills and body awareness, personal confidence and physical exercise are among the big take-aways for little kids.
Classes take on a hipper edge for tweens and early teens. After all, it has to be cool to hook that audience! The goals shift to address key concerns for that age group — stress management, self-care and physical condition among the heavy hitters. Led with a vibe that’s relatable to that age, valuable and usable life lessons come through the yoga classes and are a welcome boost to tweens and teens.
Getting the family together for a family class is just good, clean fun. Not much beats a healthy, unique activity that pulls the family together to drop mobile devices and get moving to good tunes. Breathe, stretch, learn, maybe sweat, and definitely relax together with siblings, spouses and other relatives at dedicated family classes on the weekend.
New parents can practice without having to find a babysitter! Here&Now offers a mixed level yoga class while baby plays and gets all the attention she needs.
