We’re loving the premise behind Erin Marich’s new StrongMom workout classes: Not only is her one hour boot camp geared toward prenatal and postnatal bodies, but it’s offered outdoors at Bruce Park in Greenwich through the end of October. Here’s the real kicker: There’s free babysitting. Erin, an adorable mom of two (seen here!), gives us a sneak peak into her class.
Describe the workout: multiple exercise modes, like cardio bursts, high intensity intervals, circuits, partner/team work, etc. that keep workouts fresh & interesting and our muscles guessing.
It’s Best For: all moms — during pregnancy, after and beyond. All exercises are safe for prenatal and postnatal fitness (Erin holds a pre and post natal fitness certification) and the workout can be modified in intensity “so everyone will feel the gratifying burn of a good workout,” she says.
Muscle Most Likely to Feel Sore Afterward: the abs, obliques, lower back, and gluts, since that’s what suffers the most post-pregnancy. Some days the class will target a specific muscle more so than other days (e.g., arms, back, legs, gluts). Says Erin: “I won’t lie…it makes me the tiniest bit happy when ladies tell me their thighs or triceps are sore from the last workout. They’re getting stronger, after all.”
What the Kids Do: Kids can play, join in or go play on the sidelines with a caregiver who is ready to entertain with a tunnel, parachute, coloring books, and bubbles. Childcare included in class cost.
The Deets: Classes with childcare are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Bruce Park at 9:30am; a Saturday 8am class does not offer babysitting. Your first class is free, and to drop in costs $25. Classes will move indoors in November.
