My daughters loved jewelry before they could speak. Soon after they started collecting beads and making their own jewelry. For my daughter’s next birthday I am planning a beading party and heard good things about No Stone Unturned. I talked to Lisa Bellacero, the owner, to get the scoop.
Rated Best of Westchester 2012 by Westchester Magazine, No Stone Unturned offers beading parties for children and adults. Lisa, who owned a Bronxville bead shop of the same name, closed the shop to focus on hosting beading parties for kids and adults. She provides all of the supplies — including a wide variety of colorful beads of various shapes and sizes — and she does all of the clean up (beads can be messy). All you need is the space. She’ll host a beading party anywhere — she’s held parties at homes, restaurants, even a movie theater.
Lisa brings 300 to 400 beads to every party with a mix of wood, crystal, plastic and ceramic beads. She says it’s amazing how kids will think of putting certain beads together that she would never have thought of. I could tell from talking to Lisa how much she loves the process of watching the kids pick out their beads, their focus and joy of completing their creation. She tells the girls about patterns, textures and symmetry and if a child gets stumped she helps them along, offering suggestions like choosing a favorite colors, a theme, spell their name or make a gift for someone. Although most children dive right in, choosing their beads and getting to work. Sometimes there’s even a little brother who joins in the fun. There are masculine beads for boys; one little boy made a snake out of beads.
Kids are given a bead board to work on and plan out their creations before they string the beads. After they string their necklace or bracelet, Lisa adds the clasp. This is a real clasp like on most costume jewelry. Girls love knowing that this jewelry is a step up from the stuff they make at home or camp.
Birthday parties require a minimum of 8 kids for $300 and each child will create a necklace and a bracelet or a necklace and pair of earrings. Every additional child is $25 each. For a handmade polymer clay cupcake charm or additional charm, add $6 per charm. Parties last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. If you are looking for a shorter amount of time, the kids can make one necklace for $275 for 8 kids and additional girls are $20 each. At American Girl Birthday Beading Parties each child creates a bracelet or a necklace for themselves and a matching one for their doll, for the same price as the regular beading parties.
The most popular ages for beading parties are between 6-13. Try to make your reservation up to a month in advance, but if you need a last minute party idea give her a call. Lisa Bellacero at No Stone Unturned; 914-602-8174
